How I Clean My Makeup Bruhes

There are a lot of makeup brush cleaners out there.  I have owned a couple and one i do love, but only for spot cleaning (meaning to quickly wipe clean for a different eyeshadow color or product..).  This is a step by step deep cleaning which we really should do weekly but I do this about every two weeks since I'm the only one using my brushes.  If you do makeup on others DO NOT reuse the brushes before you deep clean them.  Bacteria love makeup and brushes...let's just leave it at that.  My favorite spot cleaner is MAC but for deep cleaning I have found that antibacterial dish soap and olive oil do the best job.  The soap disinfects and the oil adds strength and moisture back into the bristles that the soap strips as it strips out the dirt, oil from our faces, and makeup from the brushes.  Keep scrolling down for a how-to and step by step process of deep cleaning your brushes!

my soap and olive oil...any will do

On a large plate pour a generous amount of soap and oil
Take your dirty (dry) brush and swirl in the mixture
See the makeup just run out of the brush?!

Next, swirl the brush in the palm of your hand (still no water added)
Do NOT press down hard, just gentle swirls

Now with the brush pointed DOWN run under warm water
NEVER EVER let water into the brush like this picture.  It will separate the bristles from the feral (the silver part) and then crack the handle of the brush.  It doesn't matter if your brushes are from the grocery store or high-end brushes.
This will ruin them. (and no, my brush is not in the water...it's in front of it..)

Squeeze out excess water until it runs clear
Lay brushes out to dry, may take up to 24 hours for more dense brushes
Look at at that nasty mess!
