Catching up

The last couple of weeks seem to have blown by. We have not done anything special, just been busy at home and with Miss Avery. Avery started physical therapy (PT) two Mondays ago for Torticollis. She was diagnosed at one week old and its very common among bigger babies and especially now with the "back to sleep" method we are all told to use. Torticollis is a weakness in the muscle bands (two of them) that stretch from the base of the skull down the neck and across the collar bone. Torticollis is where the muscles are weak and tight and pull the baby's head to one side and makes them crooked...look at Avery's pics, she leans her head to the right! Avery was a big girl with no more room to grow and so her head was pushed over onto her shoulder and she grew inside of me that way. Thus the c-section due to Avery not being able to straighten her head to come out! Poor baby! Torticollis does not hurt, just is aggravating when you stretch her neck and we do PT. She likes to cry and holler when she is being messed with...that's just it, she is being messed with and doesn't like it one bit! As far as the length of time we will be doing PT, we are not sure. Avery's Torticollis is moderate and she needs a lot of work. We go once a week to PT and stretch at home with a PT plan 6 to 8 times a day! The goal is for Avery to hold her head mid line and look laterally from said to said (without dipping her head down to each side and her ear toward the shoulder). Please pray for Avery's strength and cooperation as well as our faithfulness in carrying out the PT plan at home. Pictures: Avery eating carrots! She loves to put her hands into her mouth when she eats baby food (notice the tilt of her sweet head); Avery this week in her bed when mommy came to get her in the beautiful morning...a beautiful rolled over baby waiting; and a nap in daddy's arms, the best.
